My long-term love affair with neutrals

shirt & shoes: target // leggings: nordstrom I do love color as much as the next girl, but when it comes down to it, I’m a sucker for neutrals and I’m not afraid to embrace it. I’m finally learning how to be a fashion blogger again! Honestly all it took was great pair of shoes. I’ve been looking to streamline my wardrobe into really beautiful and really basic pieces that I can wear over and over again in different ways. Part of that might be derivative of living the entire summer out of a suitcase, but in any case I’m thoroughly enjoying it. These heels were a great find, minimal and versatile. (don’t worry, I bring them to the office and change into them, I can’t imagine walking a mile in any form of heels to my office from the nearest subway system, thats what we call insanity…) Happy Friday […]

the obsessions continues, and other tidbits.

shirt: banana republic // skirt: uniqlo // shoes & earrings: old navy // necklace: blue nile jewlery  I’m still a sucker for monochromatic/gray/black outfits, so it only makes sense that my first sunday outfit had minimal color. It’s ironic I feel that way since the majority of the clothing I packed for the summer is preeeeetty colorful. meh. what can you do. These pictures were taken in the Lobby of my building. I’m obsessed with the tile work. The area I’m living in is pretty great. I feel safe here which I’m sure my father will be relieved to hear, and it’s really close to a park. It’s also so close to New Jersey that the other day my roommate went out for a walk the other day and ended up there. Every night there are people in the streets until really late, and usually someone is playing Latin music […]

The 90s called, they want their wallpaper back.

shirt: thrifted // pants: f21 // shoes: nike roshe runs This shirt found it’s way into my closet because it’s has a striking resemblance to the wallpaper in my childhood room. I remember the first time my mom and I decided to redecorate my room, we were tearing down this pattern for what seemed like ages (but then again when you’re that young every hour of hard work seems like 5 trillion years). That room and a few others I commandeered as my own growing up went through several changes and renditions of what i believed to be the coolest room possible. This wallpaper, unfortunately never made the cut. When I found this shirt at a thrift store, I bought it on a whim, I couldn’t let go of the wallpaper shirt because for some reason it felt like it had been mine since I was four. I know, sounds like […]

Bookworm gone iZombie, seeking help.

cardigan: urban outfitters // top: uniqlo // pants: hudsons // shoes: thrifted // bag: thrifted & refashioned by my Dad Earlier today I got to thinking about how this is the time of year where I usually read more. And I’m starting to kick myself in the butt for how much time I spend on my phone instead. I think I try and justify it with the amount of random and arguably useless articles I read on my phone, but it’s just not the same. It’s been a while since I felt that magic of being fully engrossed in a book.  I can’t even remember the last time I cried while reading a book. Honestly that’s a little bit of a tragedy to me. Books are where some of my fondest memories come from. Literature always makes me feel more informed and credible. When my future children think of me, […]

Never Ending Adventures || Zocorra Ring Giveaway {Closed}

This weekend was straight out of a dream. I went down to Sacramento to shoot a wedding for one of my most beautiful friends. Everything about it was lovely and perfect. Her family was so sweet and helpful and welcoming and I had such a blast shooting it. I also finally got to meet Kirsten in real life. She was the most helpful human and so much fun. When I first got there my cousin (who was in the wedding party) and I accidentally took a scenic route from the airport and I was absolutely enthralled. I forced Kirsten to come back to Sacramento again right before I left to explore that beautiful river-side road.  We got lost getting there, but it was in Yolo County so I guess you could say we were feeling like we could do anything. I think exploring the places that stick with you, even […]

Nostalgia is a side effect of Spring

There is something about the advent of spring and summer that makes me inexplicably happy. Like all opportunities that I’ve had or am about to have come full circle and sit in front of me hoping for a few minutes to be admired. Almost exactly a year ago, I got into the BFA program. I remember feeling so relieved that I had finally gotten in. I remember a few days later running off to the mountains with my roommate Brooke to take some photos because we finally had time to do silly things.  I remember feeling so free, and so excited for the growth I knew it would inevitably provide. I also remember last summer to be one of the best summers of my life. It had a little bit of travel, romance, nature, the lake, and it had the ability to change a moments notice. I look back now at what an incredible year […]

I’ve got a “great personality”

shirt: thrifted // pants: gap // shoes: urban outfitters // purse thrifted Once upon a young insecure adolescent Emma was told by her best male friend “you may not be the prettiest girl in school but you’ve got a great personality. ” Yeah. ouch. Good thing my feels weren’t hurt for long. Mostly I had to just laugh.  I never let him live it down however (especially since a few years later we tried dating for three days. thats a story for another time, and 5 years later we’re still best friends). In the 9 years I’ve know the kid, this my favorite thing to tease him about. That was back in high school, and thankfully I’m much more secure with my self and proud of my “great personality.” In a perfect world, I think we would spend about 80% of our effort making our personality better, and maybe 20% […]

Motivation Monday

shirt: gap (similar) // pants: h&m (similar) // shoes: topshop (similar) Things I want to be better at: bringing my camera with me when just hanging with my friends. Things I got better at once becoming best friends with a fellow fashion blogger: outfit posts. But I ain’t mad bro. Also can I just say that the whole oversized shirt is underrated. You can look stylish and hip when in reality you’re just finding any excuse to be as comfortable as possible. This week has been one for the books. I have been having a little (or a lot) too much fun. and I think my brain decided it was the end of the semester cause my motivation has been struggling. Fear not though, I’ve officially dubbed today to be Motivation Monday. May your To-Do lists be checked, your netflix be watched, and your work get done. And if that […]

opposite of black.

shirt: uniqlo // pants: gap // shoes: salt water flats Spring is like an old friend. you have fond memories of her, but you forget how wonderful she truly is until she’s with you. She comes in with a hint of subtle positivity before her optimism comes into full bloom. When she’s around, you can’t help but feel an overwhelming feeling of comfort and hope. She encourages you to laugh, or to silently observe in awe at the the magic that she encompasses. This outfit felt a little ironic to me seeing as I’ve been dressing in pretty much all black lately. But thats the fun in fashion, each day is a different chance to be like “Yep. This is who I am today. Today I have a soul. Don’t get used to it. Black is still the color of my heart, but I just want Spring to fell more […]
